Well, Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead” finally got it’s advertising comeuppance. To think, it was Brian (it always is) who showed us all waaaay back in July of ‘08. It took 3 months (October ‘08) for the video to be released. Ten months (May of ‘09) for the album to actually come out. Still waiting for KROQ to come around. And now, almost a year and a half (16 months) removed, for it to jump onto a commercial. A cell phone commercial no less. It’s been a long strange trip for that jam, but yet again, it’s another example of how far ahead me and my crew are than the world. Like it or not, you must take heed.
According to the Guardian, they shot in four countries (New Zealand, Canada, Fiji and the U.K.); took three months to build the set for the underwater scene; got army assistance to film the grass-hauling shots at an old bombing range; and hired the set designer from the third Lord of the Rings film to pull it all together.

So it looks like HP won the Vampire Weekend “A-Punk” sweepstakes. I can’t believe the song took this long to get put into a commercial. Was it such an obvious choice that no one even tried to get it? Or do you think VW’s management held the song hostage, cause they knew they could get a hefty ransom for it?
Kinda timely with their new album coming out as well. I for one have been wondering when stadiums were gonna start using the “Hey Hey Hey’s!” from the song for sporting event chants and what not.
