pitchfork:

So this trailer for the upcoming LCD Soundsystem documentary about their last show looks fucking great.

I’m glad I got to see them at the Palladium before they ended it all.* Nancy was looking super fine and I made out with an unknown female of the species in the spirit of the show.

*Will there be a reunion? Probably. I think bands “retiring” are a dumb idea, because there’s no reason they still can’t play/record music the next 20 odd years. I mean, look at the Doors and the Stones. Just stop playing and call it an indefinite hiatus.

I went and caught the LCD Soundsystem show at the Palladium last Friday. I rocked it solo, which has been my M.O. for concerts recently. I was never a huge LCD fan. I didn’t really get into them until the last year. I mean, I knew of Murphy & his crew. I had Sound of Silver & “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House” in my iTunes Library, although I only really played “Daft Punk” exclusively.

Once I began getting into shape (somewhat) recently, I delved into the LCD oeuvre to find stuff to work out to. I got bit by the James Murphy bug and conveniently This Is Happening got released not long after. Then the show rolled up and it seemed like it was my destiny to go. I danced and drank the entire set. However, it was very strange the way it all played out.

I figured “Daft Punk” would get played at the end or during the encore, as I thought that was his most popular jam. If not that, then “All My Friends”. Turns out, “Daft Punk” got played 6th, and nobody really danced. I was disappointed to say the least. Scared that LA was going to play it’s ‘Too Cool For School’ card. Two songs later, Murphy and company set it off midway through “All My Friends”.

The photo below is about where I was standing dancing, maybe a bit more to the right. Basically, I could see LCD & the entire crowd from my vantage point. “All My Friends” started off slow with the crowd, until the middle, when (finally) everyone hit their stride and the whole place blew up into one big dance fest. It was one of the more amazing things I’ve been a part of. If you watch the video, you’ll see at about the 3:00 mark, where the people are really getting into it. They’re cheering and even Murphy gets a bit more serious about his performance.

By the time minute 5 rolls around, everyone is singing/yelling and (if you’re in the back with me) most were probably too busy dancing to watch the stage anyways. You can sense that when everyone starts chanting “Where are your friends tonight?” over and over. From that point on, it was a different show. Nobody stopped dancing and everyone stopped caring that it was 1000 degrees inside. I really wish you could’ve been there to see this. I’m glad I didn’t miss it.
