Short (Spoilerish) Thoughts on Bridesmaids:

  • I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • That said, all the comedians and friends of the cast trying to force over-promote this on the public almost killed it. Relax people.
  • Re: Editing. Doug is on point. It felt like they had all these funny scenes, and mid way through, they realized they had a story to flesh out.
  • Wiig, while beautiful and amazing, came out looking older than I had previously perceived her to be. (Not a bad thing fems!)
  • Bridesmaid dress buying/fitting scene. Yes.
  • “Hey Fuck Buddy!”
  • Drunk Wiig. Forever. Always.
  • Where was Mindy Kaling? :(

Drew Barrymore is directing this, her first directing gig. Wes Anderson’s Music Supervisor is in charge of the music. It has Ellen Page. Why does it look like Juno, yet on roller skates? You kids know me, I wouldn’t be that lazy just to make an assumption like that solely based on one actor/character. So check it:

  • Small town girl in a small town
  • rebels against the norm
  • geeky cool dude love interest
  • off center parents
  • dad makes one liners and is pretty cool
  • indie soundtrack (minus Weezer song in the trailer)
I’m still way interested in this and would like to see it as soon as possible, but it’s more for the supporting cast and Kristin Wiig. I’m not normally a fan of Barrymore and her droopy mouth, but she forces herself into such projects, it can’t be helped. I am very impressed that they went with Peaches for the beginning of the trailer. That song is pretty hardcore and a great female-ish anthem.
